Arylalkylamine

Arylalkylamines are a chemical class of organic compounds in which an aromatic ring is joined to an amino group through a short carbon chain. This umbrella covers the phenethylamines, tryptamines, and their many descendants, forming the structural core of most monoaminergic psychoactives. Because the family is so broad, its members act across many categories, including stimulants, hallucinogens and entactogens. The shared aromatic-ring-plus-amine-chain motif is what links these otherwise diverse compounds.
