2C-B-FLY

2C-B-FLY molecule structure2C-B-FLY molecule structure
8-bromo-2,3,6,7-benzo-dihydro-difuran-ethylamine
2cbfly, 2CB-FLY

2C-B-FLY is a lesser-known psychedelic in the phenethylamine and benzodihydrodifuran classescitation needed; Aaron P. Monte synthesized it in 1996. It is a dihydrofuran analog of 2C-B, with effects described as combining features of 2C-B, mescaline, and MDA, including mild psychedelia, entactogenic body sensations, and a positive mood push. Its popularity was temporarily impacted around 2009 when deaths caused by Bromo-DragonFLY were erroneously attributed to it.

Pharmacology

Pharmacodynamics

2C-B-FLY acts as a potent partial agonist at the serotonin 5-HT2A receptor, with this interaction considered the primary basis for its psychedelic effects.citation needed It is additionally a potent agonist at 5-HT2B and 5-HT2C, displaying biased agonism at 5-HT2C. The compound shows notably high affinity for the 5-HT1D receptor (unusual among 2C-series compounds), alongside weaker affinity for 5-HT1A, 5-HT1B, and 5-HT1E.

Pharmacokinetics

No pharmacokinetic studies have been performed and little is known about its metabolism.

Tolerance

Tolerance timelines are rules of thumb, not exact schedules, and vary widely between individuals and use patterns.

Full Tolerance
2C-B-FLY can produce tolerance almost immediately after it is taken.
Baseline Reset
Approximately 7 days without further consumption
Half Tolerance
Approximately 3 days
Cross Tolerance

Psychedelics (all psychedelics will have a reduced effect following 2C-B-FLY consumption)

Harm Potential

Addiction & Dependence

Psychological

Extremely Low

2C-B-FLY is not habit-forming, and the desire to use it can actually decrease with use. It is most often self-regulating.citation needed

Toxicity

Lethal Dosage

The toxicity of 2C-B-FLY in humans is unknown, and the exact toxic dose has not been established. Two deaths occurred in October 2009 in Denmark and the United States after ingestion of a substance sold as 2C-B-FLY, but the material actually consisted of Bromo-DragonFLY contaminated with a small amount of unidentified impurities, not 2C-B-FLY itself.

History & Culture

Discovery and Synthesis

2C-B-FLY was first described in the scientific literature in 1995 by Aaron Phillip Monte and David E. Nichols along with colleagues at Purdue University.citation needed Monte, a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, synthesized this novel compound as part of research

Legality

International

2C-B-FLY does not appear in the INCB lists of substances controlled by the 1961 Single Convention, the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances, or Tables I and II of the 1988 Convention. UNODC identifies 2C-B-FLY as a phenethylamine, but that classification is not international scheduling.
