Extremely LowMoclobemide is an antidepressant with no documented abuse potential or reinforcing properties. It is not associated with compulsive use patterns.
Physical
Extremely LowWithdrawal symptoms appear very uncommon relative to other antidepressants. One report described mild flu-like symptoms lasting 7 days after a high-dose regimen was rapidly reduced.
Toxicity
In chronic toxicity studies, high doses over 18 months produced only mildly elevated alkaline phosphatase and gamma-GT in rats; no signs of chronic toxicity were noted at lower doses.
Moclobemide therapy has only rarely been associated with hypertension.
Psychosis Risk
Some individuals have been reported to experience paradoxical worsening of depression, and suicidal ideation has also been described as a rare adverse effect.
Seizure Risk
Moclobemide is thought to have limited proconvulsant activity, but seizures can occur rarely. Overdose toxicity may also include seizures.
