Benzamide

Benzamides are a chemical class of organic compounds built on an amide-linked benzene ring, in which a carbonyl-nitrogen amide group is attached directly to an aromatic ring. Members differ by substituents on the ring and on the amide nitrogen. In psychoactive chemistry the family is most prominent as the parent of certain U-series synthetic opioids, which act as agonists at the mu-opioid receptor. As with other potent novel opioids, they carry a significant overdose risk.
