Methylnaphthidate has abuse potential comparable to amphetamine, cocaine, or methylphenidate because it acts at dopamine transporters, produces euphoria, and may not produce marked tolerance. Its euphoric rush is brief and compulsive, similar to cocaine, which can encourage repeated dosing.
