5-MeO-DALT is a psychoactive tryptamine1 with short-lived effects that are reported to be primarily physical, often lacking the visual distortions typical of many psychedelics. User reports describe rapid, strong entheogenic effects and euphoric, sensual, energised feelings.1 Self-reported acute physical effects, unsubstantiated by medical observation, may include increased blood pressure and rapid heartbeat.1 The paper states that no information is available on its long-term effects1. Alexander Shulgin first synthesized and described it in 2004.

Geometry
The visual geometry that is present throughout the experience can be described as more similar in appearance to that of AMT than that of LSD, 2C-B or 2C-I. It can be comprehensively described as unstructured in its organization, synthetic in geometric style, intricate in complexity, small in size, slow and smooth in motion, colourful in scheme, glossy in colour, equally blurred and sharp in its edges and equally rounded and angular in its corners. They give off a synthetic feel to them that is less impressive than most of the "classical" psychedelics at any level. It has yet to be confirmed whether this compound results in either level 8A or level 8B at heavy doses.

5-MeO-DALT acts primarily as a potent full agonist at serotonin 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors, with 5-HT2A activity implicated in its psychedelic effects. It also agonizes 5-HT2B and 5-HT2C receptors and inhibits dopamine and serotonin reuptake through DAT and SERT. Binding affinities have also been reported at other serotonin receptors, adrenergic α2A, α2B and α2C receptors, histamine H1 and H3 receptors, κ-opioid receptors, and σ1 and σ2 receptors2, but their functional contributions remain under investigation.

Toxicity
The exact toxic dose is unknown. One reported death involved injuries sustained after a person was hit by a truck while under the influence of 5-MeO-DALT3, and a published case report describes brief loss of consciousness and visual hallucinations after consuming 5-MeO-DALT.
Self-reported acute physical effects of 5-MeO-DALT, unsubstantiated by medical observation, may include an increase in heart rate and blood pressure3, with greater cardiovascular discomfort than other psychedelics; possible toxicity has been raised for long-term or heavy use.
Rhabdomyolysis has been reported in described cases of 5-MeO-DALT poisoning.2

International
5-MeO-DALT does not appear in the schedules of the 1961 Single Convention or the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances, or in the precursor tables of the 1988 Convention. It is therefore not internationally scheduled under those conventions.

5-MeO-DALT is not separately listed in the federal controlled-substance schedules. Under the Controlled Substances Act, it may be treated as a Schedule I controlled substance analogue only if it satisfies the statutory analogue definition and is intended for human consumption. In that circumstance, possession, manufacture, distribution, dispensing, and possession with intent to manufacture, distribute, or dispense are prohibited. FDA identified 5-MeO-DALT as an analogue of the Schedule I substance 5-MeO-DiPT in 2020, but this does not constitute unconditional substance-wide scheduling.

ChinaIllegal5-MeO-DALT is listed as item 95 in 《非药用类麻醉药品和精神药品目录》 under the name N,N-diallyl-5-methoxytryptamine. It has been controlled since 1 October 2015, and Article 4 of the scheduling measures prohibits any entity or individual from producing, trading, transporting, using, storing, importing, or exporting listed substances. Scientific and experimental use, reference standards used in drug or medical-device production and testing, and intermediates used in drug production are governed by other rules.
