Thienodiazepine
Thienodiazepines are a chemical class of organic compounds derived from the core benzodiazepine structure, in which the fused benzene ring is replaced by a thiophene ring, a five-membered sulfur-containing aromatic ring. This ring swap is a bioisosteric substitution that leaves the diazepine core otherwise intact. Pharmacologically the members behave as classical benzodiazepines, acting as positive modulators at the GABA-A receptor. The thiophene ring in place of the benzene ring is the defining feature of the class.
