Pyrrolidinophenones are a chemical class of organic compounds derived from the core cathinone structure, in which the amine nitrogen is enclosed within a five-membered pyrrolidine ring. They retain the beta-keto aryl framework of the cathinones, with the pyrrolidine ring replacing the terminal amine and variable ring and sidechain substituents distinguishing the members. Most pyrrolidinophenones act as potent inhibitors of dopamine and noradrenaline reuptake, producing strong stimulant effects. The pyrrolidine ring on a cathinone backbone is the defining feature of the class.
