Pyrrolidine
Substituted pyrrolidines are a chemical class of organic compounds in which the amine nitrogen is incorporated into a five-membered pyrrolidine ring. In the psychoactive pyrrolidinophenones they retain the cathinone framework, a benzene ring linked to an alpha-methyl sidechain bearing a beta-keto group, but the terminal amine is replaced by this pyrrolidine ring. Members vary by ring substituents, by the length of the alkyl chain on the sidechain, and by whether a methylenedioxy bridge is present on the aromatic ring. These compounds typically act as potent stimulants through inhibition of dopamine and noradrenaline reuptake.
