Addiction & Dependence
Psychological
LowAs a classical psychedelic tryptamine, 4-HO-DET is not considered to have significant abuse potential. Higher doses are more likely to produce adverse reactions and could theoretically involve addiction, although this has not been well documented for this compound.
Toxicity
No precise toxic dose has been established, as 4-HO-DET remains a research chemical with minimal documented human-use history.
Stomach and abdominal discomfort, appetite loss, and diuretic effects have been reported at typical doses, generally presenting as transient effects during the experience.
Increased blood pressure has been reported during intoxication.
Psychosis Risk
At very high doses (over 30 mg), reports describe reactions such as transient psychosis, depersonalization, mystical experiences, delirium, schizophrenia-like behavior, catatonia, and paranoia. Clinical studies found that in 50% of cases there was motor restlessness, aphasia, loss of concentration, and temporal and spatial disorientation, with extreme psychotic symptoms occurring more rarely and only at the highest doses.
