Toxicity
Propoxyphene poisoning is linked with arrhythmias, cardiovascular depression, decreased heart rate, decreased contractility, impaired electrical conductivity, and QRS widening.
Poisoning may produce miosis, gastrointestinal effects, aspiration pneumonia, respiratory depression, and central nervous system depression.
When propoxyphene is overdosed in a paracetamol combination, hepatic injury, liver failure, and necrosis may occur.
Pulmonary edema may occur in overdose.
Seizure Risk
Overdose can cause seizures, and propoxyphene overdose in the presence of amphetamine may cause fatal convulsive seizures.
