Generic structure

Diphenylpropylamines are a chemical class of organic compounds derived from the core phenylpropylamine structure, carrying a second aryl ring on the propylamine chain. This gives a scaffold bearing two phenyl rings near the sidechain. Members act as full opioid agonists at the mu-opioid receptor, forming the methadone family of long-acting analgesics. The second aryl ring is the feature that distinguishes them from the simpler phenylpropylamines.
