Pargy-LAD

Since 18 July 2019, PARGY-LAD has been covered by the generic structural definition for Δ9,10-ergolene derivatives in Anlage 1 Nr. 5.2 of the Neue-psychoaktive-Stoffe-Gesetz (NpSG), rather than being individually named; the current consolidated NpSG, last amended 7 January 2026, retains this group. Bundesrat Drucksache 238/19 identifies PARGY-LAD as (8β)-N,N-diethyl-6-(prop-2-in-1-yl)-9,10-didehydroergoline-8-carboxamide, and the definition applies to derivatives up to 600 u and permits a prop-2-yn-1-yl group at R2 and alkyl groups through C5 at the two amide-nitrogen positions R3 and R4. The NpSG prohibits trade, placing on the market, manufacture, import, export, transit, acquisition, possession, and administration to another person; recognized commercial, industrial, scientific, and specified official uses are excepted, and § 1(2) excludes narcotic drugs under the BtMG, medicines, veterinary medicines, and covered medical devices. NpSG § 4(1) provides imprisonment for up to three years or a fine for trade, placing on the market, or administration to another person, and for manufacture or movement into Germany when done for the purpose of placing the substance on the market; simple acquisition and possession remain prohibited but are not among the ordinary offences enumerated in § 4(1).

Since 1 June 2021, PARGY-LAD has been covered by the generic structural definition for lysergamides in I saraksts under Likums “Par Krimināllikuma spēkā stāšanās un piemērošanas kārtību”, 2. pielikums, II nodaļa, 11. punkta 21. apakšpunkts, rather than being individually named. Its N,N-diethyl amide and prop-2-ynyl substitution at the hydrogenated quinoline nitrogen fall within that definition, which excludes ergometrine, ergotamine, methylergometrine, and methysergide. Section 5 of Narkotisko un psihotropo vielu un zāļu, kā arī prekursoru likumīgās aprites likums generally prohibits production, manufacture, import, export, distribution, advertising, transport, possession, supply, acquisition, use, and transit through Latvia; section 7 provides a State Agency of Medicines permit route for Schedule I substances required for medical or veterinary medical scientific research, determination of physical and chemical properties, or educational purposes. For the lysergamide structural class, quantities up to 0.001 g are classified as small and quantities from 0.002 g as large.

PARGY-LAD is not specifically named in the current revised Schedule 2 to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, the 2014 LSD-related-compounds amendment, or the current Temporary Class Drug Order. PARGY-LAD produced full substitution in LSD-trained rats, had an ED50 of 0.62 micromoles per kilogram, and had serotonin-site affinities of 91.2 and 100.0 nanomolar. A contemporaneous human-trial note rated 500 micrograms as + to +1/2, where + is defined as quite certainly active; it was not a controlled clinical trial. The Psychoactive Substances Act 2016 covers PARGY-LAD through its effect-based definition, and Home Office forensic guidance places hallucinogens and the 5-HT2A system within its scientific framework, but each prosecution still requires identification of the seized material and proof of its psychoactive capability through admissible forensic and expert evidence. Subject to Schedule 1 exemptions, section 11 and Schedule 2 activity exemptions, and the statutory mental and consumption elements, the Act controls production, supply, offers to supply, possession with intent to supply, import, export, and possession in a custodial institution for psychoactive consumption; ordinary personal possession outside a custodial institution is not an offence under the Act.

The version of the Betäubungsmittelverzeichnisverordnung (BetmVV-EDI) effective 13 March 2026 does not list PARGY-LAD by name in Annexes 1–8. Annex 6, Verzeichnis e, number 263 covers lysergic-acid-amide derivatives only when the R6 nitrogen bears an alkyl or alkenyl group, whereas PARGY-LAD bears a prop-2-ynyl (propargyl) substituent with a carbon-carbon triple bond; no other generic structural class applies to it. PARGY-LAD is therefore unscheduled under the BetmVV-EDI, although other Swiss product, therapeutic-products, and customs laws may apply to a PARGY-LAD product.
