Clotiazepam

Under the Controlled Substances Act, clotiazepam is listed by exact name in federal Schedule IV at 21 CFR § 1308.14(c)(14), under controlled-substance code 2752. The listing covers any quantity of clotiazepam and its salts, isomers, and salts of isomers where chemically possible, unless specifically excepted or listed in another schedule. Federal law prohibits unauthorized possession, manufacture, distribution, dispensing, import, and export.

Clotiazepam is listed by exact name as a Class C controlled drug in Schedule 2 Part III of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971. This classification took effect on 1 April 1986. It is also listed in Schedule 4 Part I of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001. Possession, possession with intent to supply, production, supply, and offering to supply are prohibited subject to applicable regulations, licences, exceptions, and statutory defences.

Clotiazepam and its salts are listed in Schedule IV, item 12, of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Ordinary possession is not prohibited by subsection 4(1), which applies only to substances in Schedules I, II, and III; Schedule IV substances remain subject to prohibitions on trafficking, possession for trafficking, unauthorized import or export, possession for export, unauthorized production, and obtaining a substance from a practitioner without the disclosure required by subsection 4(2). The maximum penalty for trafficking, possession for trafficking, unauthorized import or export, and unauthorized production is three years' imprisonment on indictment or one year on summary conviction. The Act came into force on May 14, 1997.
