4,4'-DMAR

Under United States federal law, 4,4′-dimethylaminorex (4,4′-DMAR) is expressly listed in Schedule I under 21 C.F.R. § 1308.11(f)(5), with DEA controlled-substance code 1595. The listing includes its salts, isomers, and salts of isomers and took effect on September 13, 2021. Handling 4,4′-DMAR—including possession, manufacture, distribution, import, export, research, instructional activities, and chemical analysis—requires the applicable Schedule I authorization and is subject to the federal controls and sanctions governing Schedule I substances. Under § 3, federal authorization is required to manufacture, trade in, import, export, supply, sell, otherwise place on the market, or acquire narcotic drugs. Under § 13(1), substances in Anlagen I and II may not be prescribed, administered, or supplied for immediate consumption. Under § 29(1), unauthorized manufacture, trade, import, export, sale, supply, other placing on the market, acquisition or procurement, and possession without written acquisition authorization are punishable by imprisonment for up to five years or a fine; under § 29(5), a court may refrain from punishment for a small quantity intended solely for personal consumption.
