Harm Potential

Addiction & Dependence

Psychological

High

Discrimination studies have found 3,4-CTMP to be more addictive than cocaine. Reports compare its abuse potential to amphetamine or MDMA, citing limited tolerance, euphoric effects, and dopamine-transporter activity.

Toxicity

Cardiovascular

Chronic use or high doses may cause serious cardiovascular effects including pulmonary hypertension, heart valve fibrosis, abnormal heartbeat, and severe vasoconstriction; these risks are particularly concerning due to the substance's potent 5-HT2B receptor agonism.

Pulmonary

5-HT2B receptor agonism may contribute to pulmonary hypertension, which can present with breathing difficulty, lightheadedness, and related cardiovascular warning signs. This hazard may become severe or fatal, particularly with high doses or long-term use.

Nasal/Mucosal

Insufflation is reported to be painful and potentially extremely caustic due to low water solubility preventing ready absorption through nasal mucus membranes.

Psychosis Risk

Prolonged misuse can result in stimulant psychosis, especially when excessive dosing is combined with sleep deprivation.
