Lormetazepam

Lormetazepam has been listed by exact name in Lijst II of the Opiumwet since 5 May 1994. Article 3 prohibits its import, export, cultivation, preparation, treatment, processing, sale, delivery, supply, transport, possession, and manufacture unless an exception applies. Article 5(2) exempts the supply, transport, and possession of the quantity needed for a person's own medical use when the medicine was obtained lawfully, alongside other specified medical and institutional cases. The Medicines Evaluation Board's current product record for Lormetazepam Aurobindo 2 mg identifies lormetazepam as its active substance, marks the product as prescription only, and describes lormetazepam as a benzodiazepine prescribed for the short-term treatment of severe sleep problems.

Lormetazepam is a prescription-only medicine under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012, regulations 5(3)(a) and 214(1), and is marketed under UK marketing authorisation PL 20416/0665 with POM legal status. It may be sold or supplied only in accordance with a prescription from an appropriate practitioner, subject to the exemptions in Chapter 3 of Part 12. It is also listed as a Class C controlled drug in Schedule 2 Part III of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and in Schedule 4 Part I of the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001; regulation 10(2) permits possession for medical purposes in accordance with a prescriber's directions.
