Generic structure

Diphenylmethanethiols are a chemical class of organic compounds that are sulfur-bearing benzhydryl compounds, built on a central carbon flanked by two phenyl rings and bearing a sulfur atom. Members differ by the groups attached at that sulfur. The family comprises the modafinil-type eugeroics, wakefulness-promoting agents whose mechanism involves dopamine transporter inhibition. The sulfur-bearing diphenylmethyl core is the defining structural feature of the class.
