5-IAI is expressly listed as 5-jodo-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-2-amin in Förteckning I of the Swedish Medical Products Agency's narcotics schedules, a list for substances that normally have no medical use. The classification took effect on 12 November 2019. The Narcotic Drugs Punishments Act criminalizes unauthorized possession, use, transfer, sale, production intended for abuse, acquisition for transfer, and specified transport and storage of narcotics.

5-IAI is expressly listed as 5-Jodi-2-aminoindaani (5-IAI) in the annex to Valtioneuvoston asetus 1130/2014 as a psychoactive substance banned from the consumer market. Under Huumausainelaki 373/2008, its manufacture, import into Finland, storage, offering for sale, and supply are prohibited; possession and use are not included in this category-specific prohibition. Exceptions apply to qualifying research and industrial activities under section 23 b of the Act. The listing has applied since 20 December 2014 and also appears in the replacement annex that entered into force on 10 July 2026.
