Generic structure

Isoxazoles are a chemical class of organic compounds derived from the core amine structure, consisting of five-membered rings containing adjacent oxygen and nitrogen atoms. Members differ by the substituents attached to this ring. The principal psychoactive members are the actives of the fly agaric mushroom, which act at GABA-A and glutamate receptors to produce deliriant and sedating effects. The five-membered ring with adjacent oxygen and nitrogen is the defining feature of the class.
