Alcohol

Alcohols are a chemical class of organic compounds bearing a hydroxyl group on a saturated carbon. Members differ by the size and branching of the carbon skeleton carrying that hydroxyl. Several act as central nervous system depressants, with the simplest and most widely consumed being the archetype of the class, alongside less common branched relatives. The hydroxyl group on a saturated carbon is the defining structural feature of the class.
